I was fairly new to Twitter when I received a notification that I had a new follower - a pop/punk band from Scotland called All So Simple. After I checked out their Twitter account, I followed them back. They seemed like a pretty cool band!
A few days later, they posted a contest on Twitter, looking for EP Cover designs for their new EP "Blue Skies and Open C's". The contest winner would receive bragging rights and an All So Simple T-shirt.
I'm always in the market for a new T-shirt, so I began sketching right away. I drew this Asian-style wave by hand using a fine point roller ball pen on normal photocopy paper. I hid three Cs in the waves.
I then scanned the sketch, took it to my computer and finished it off in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. I ran a live trace over the wave sketch and imported the vector into Photoshop where I layered up the colored grunge textures and created the light rays.
The rest, as they say, is history...
And as promised... A package arrived from Scotland not long after...
Of course, I *had* to take a screen-shot of my first album artwork to be sold on iTunes.
Bassist Johnny Fowler liked this gig poster a *bit* too much:
